On 23 July 2026, the National Institute for Agricultural Research (INRA) had the honor of welcoming His Excellency Mr. Sanjay Rana, Ambassador of the Republic of India to Morocco, for a working visit aimed at strengthening scientific and technical cooperation between the two countries in the agricultural sector.

The meeting provided an opportunity to explore prospects for revitalizing and expanding the Morocco–India partnership in agricultural research and education. Discussions focused in particular on the renewal of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of India, as well as on including agricultural issues on the agenda of the upcoming Morocco–India Joint Commission.

On this occasion, His Excellency Mr. Sanjay Rana reaffirmed his commitment to engaging the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) in order to identify new opportunities for joint research projects with INRA in areas of shared interest that address current agricultural challenges.

The Ambassador also presented the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Programme, a flagship initiative of India’s Ministry of External Affairs that provides young professionals and officials from partner countries with valuable training and capacity-building opportunities at leading Indian institutions.

For her part, Prof. Lamiae Ghaouti, Director of INRA, highlighted the achievements of Morocco–India cooperation in the agricultural field. She recalled the implementation of the agricultural extension services project carried out in 2010 in collaboration with ICRISAT and funded by the OCP Group, as well as the India-Morocco Food Legumes Initiative “IMFLI”, launched in 2013, which brought together Moroccan and Indian institutions around research and innovation programs dedicated to this strategic sector.
